Dreieich raises taxi fares for the first time in years to offset rising costs

Taxis in Dreieich will soon incur higher costs after the city council approved a fare increase. The decision follows a request from local operators struggling with higher running expenses. This marks only the second price adjustment since 2015.

The base fare will rise from €3.20 to €3.70, while the per-kilometre rate jumps from €2.00 to €2.40. Waiting time charges will also go up, increasing from €33 to €35 per hour.

Local taxi drivers had asked for the change, citing rising expenses. The last fare adjustment in Dreieich took place in 2022, making this only the second increase in nearly a decade.

Neither the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) nor the Hessian Weights and Measures Directorate raised any objections. The new rates will bring Dreieich's fares closer to the average charged in the wider Offenbach district.

The fare changes will take effect in the coming weeks. Passengers will pay more, but operators argue the adjustments are necessary to cover costs. The decision reflects broader economic pressures on the taxi industry.
