Dreieich Plants 82 Trees in Climate Change Fight
Dreieich has witnessed a notable greening initiative this week, with 82 trees planted throughout the city. The planting, which includes heat- and drought-resistant species, is part of a broader effort to tackle climate change, as emphasized by First City Councilor Holger Dechert. The trees have been sponsored via an online portal and partially funded by the KfW program.
The trees have been planted at various locations around Dreieich, including Ernst-Ludwig-Allee, Straßheimplatz, Im Bachgrund, Am Trauben, Fichtestraße, and Bürgerpark. The species planted are diverse, with 37 different types and cultivars used to bolster the urban tree population's resilience.
The DLB AöR's online tree donation portal has played a pivotal role in this initiative. It enables sponsors to choose specific planting locations using an interactive map. This year, the city has received 2025 tree sponsorships, totaling €17,500, with each sponsorship costing €500 per tree. Notably, the city and its service provider, DLB AöR, will receive 80% funding for 25 new plantings through the KfW Program 444 (Natural Climate Protection).
The tree planting initiative in Dreieich is poised to set a new donation record this year, thanks to the support of citizens, associations, and businesses. With 82 trees already planted and more on the way, the city is taking a significant stride towards combating climate change and enriching its urban green spaces.
