Dreieich Library Bounces Back with Nearly 200,000 Loans in 2023

The library’s total budget for new materials in 2023 reached €55,500. The city of Dreieich covered the full amount, with an additional €12,500 coming from Hessian state funding. These investments supported a wide range of books and digital resources.

Self-service terminals now handle 80 to 90% of all loans, reflecting a shift in how patrons access materials. Digital borrowing also rose, with 66,786 checkouts recorded in 2023. Despite this, physical books remained popular, particularly among younger readers.

Children’s and young adult books made up nearly a third of all loans, totaling 66,640 items. Nine of the top ten most borrowed titles in this category came from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. For adults, The Seventh Girl by Stacy Willingham was the most checked-out book.

The library hosted 403 events throughout the year, including 314 aimed at children and teens. Adults attended 33 separate events, drawing over 5,000 participants in total. These activities contributed to the library’s role as a community hub.

With rising digital borrowing, high attendance at events, and steady demand for children’s books, Dreieich City Library remains a key resource for the area. The 2023 figures highlight its continued growth in both physical and online services. Funding from the city and state ensured new materials could meet patron needs.
