Dr. Andrea Bindig elected Federal Judge
Dr. Andrea Bindig has been elected as a federal judge at the Federal Social Court in Kassel. The appointment follows a career marked by legal expertise and high-level judicial experience. Colleagues and officials have praised her professionalism and dedication to social law.
Born in Leipzig in 1981, Dr. Bindig studied law in Gƶttingen and Leuven, Belgium. She began her judicial career in 2012 after completing her legal clerkship, joining the social judiciary of Lower Saxony and Bremen. Her early work included a secondment as a research assistant to the Federal Social Court from 2018 to 2019.
Between 2020 and 2023, she took on a dual role as a researcher at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin and at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. During the same period, she also served at the Federal Constitutional Court. Since 2025, she has led the division for Federal Council affairs and public law at the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice. Dr. Bindig has contributed to legal scholarship as a co-author of commentaries on substantive social law and the Federal Constitutional Court Act. She also serves as an examiner for the State Judicial Examination Office. Katrin Rieke, President of the State Social Court, highlighted her competence, resilience, and genuine concern for peopleās legal issues. Her most recent position before this appointment was on the State Social Court of Lower Saxony-Bremen.
The Federal Social Court in Kassel now welcomes Dr. Bindig as a federal judge. Her background in research, constitutional law, and social judiciary positions her as a strong addition to the bench. The role builds on her years of experience in both academic and practical legal fields.
