Dotzheim recycling center tightens rules during March renovations

The Dotzheim recycling center will stay open during upcoming renovations. But major changes will take effect from 30 March to keep operations running smoothly. Visitors will face reduced space, restricted access and stricter rules on waste disposal.

From 30 March, only a third of the usual site area will be available. One of the two entrance gates will also close, limiting how many people can enter at once. The center normally sees between 170 and 200 visitors each weekday, with numbers rising above 200 at weekends.

To cut down on waiting times, the center will only accept four types of waste: green waste, bulky waste, metal, and PPK (paper, cardboard, and carton). Any items requiring payment will no longer be taken. Vehicles towing trailers will also be banned to stop queues from blocking Willy-Werner-Straße, a vital route to the nearby Horst-Schmidt Clinics.

Despite the challenges, officials decided against closing the site completely. Keeping it open ensures residents still have a local recycling option while work is carried out.

The changes aim to prevent traffic jams and keep the recycling center functional during renovations. Residents will need to plan ahead, as fewer waste types will be accepted and access will be tighter. The new rules take effect on 30 March and will remain in place until further notice.
