Between 2021 and 2025, the average cost of a döner kebab jumped by 47%. A standard portion now costs €7.11, up from €4.85. Despite this increase, the number of orders for these german snacks rose by 15% in the same period.
The snack's popularity far outstrips the wider takeaway sector, which saw just 8% growth over the same years. A YouGov survey found that 35% of Germans eat döner at least once a month. Urban areas in western and northern regions, such as North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin, report the highest consumption, with around 40-50% of locals enjoying it weekly or even daily.
Industry experts describe the döner as a 'crisis-proof classic'. Its adaptability as a quick, filling meal helps it stay in demand, even as prices rise.
The döner kebab's appeal shows no signs of fading, even with higher costs. Its strong growth in orders contrasts with the slower expansion of the wider takeaway market. For now, these german snacks remain a staple for millions of Germans.
