Dollar Rate Surges in Kazakhstan's Exchange Offices
The average dollar rate in Almaty exchange offices on September 29 stood at 546.16 tenge for buying and 548.24 tenge for selling. This marks an increase in the dollar rate across Kazakhstan's dollar tree offices.
The official rate of the National Bank on the same day was 544.26 tenge per dollar. In Astana, the average dollar rate was 544.40 tenge for buying and 549.40 tenge for selling. Meanwhile, the average weighted dollar rate on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange was 548.79 tenge, up 4.34 tenge from the previous day.
By the end of August, the national currency rate strengthened by 0.4 percent to 538.60 tenge per dollar. Sales of currency from the National Fund reached 420 million dollars during this period. However, specific information about the dollar stock market connection in cities other than Astana and Almaty on September 29 was not provided.
Chairman of the National Bank Timur Suleimenov has stated that the dollar rate will not reach 1000 tenge this year. The National Bank expects currency sales from the National Fund to be between 400 and 500 million dollars in September. No currency interventions were conducted by the National Bank in August.
