Dirk von Hammel named new chief of Ober-Ramstadt police station

Police Vice President Dirk Fornoff congratulated the First Police Commissioner Dirk von Hammel on taking over the leadership of the Ober-Ramstadt police station on September 30, 2025.
In the presence of invited guests from the municipalities and the police headquarters, he received his appointment certificate from the deputy head of the authority, making the 56-year-old the new head of the police station as of October 4, 2025.
"I am pleased that we were able to win Dirk von Hammel for this leadership position. With his official appointment as the new head, the Ober-Ramstadt police station will have another experienced leader after Dirk Höhl. The responsibility of the Ober-Ramstadt police lies in good hands with him, and I wish him all the best and much luck in his new position," said Police Vice President Dirk Fornoff at the inauguration.
Dirk von Hammel is an experienced police officer who has gained experience in various areas of police work in a variety of positions. He began his police training in Kassel in October 1987 and then served in the reserve police and in rotating shifts at various stations, including the Ober-Ramstadt police station, as well as stations in Königstein, Bensheim, and the 1st police station in Darmstadt. In 2020, he became the deputy head of the 2nd police station in Darmstadt before taking over the leadership of the police stations in Bensheim and then the South Hesse police dog unit.
The 56-year-old is happily married, has two children, and lives in the Modautal. In his free time, he enjoys spending time in nature, cycling or hiking, and also likes to use the family's motorhome for trips or holidays.
"Having been active in the patrol service of the Ober-Ramstadt police station for over twenty years, this new task feels like coming home to me. I look forward to being able to work together with my colleagues every day to ensure the safety of the local citizens in this new position within the South Hesse police headquarters," said First Police Commissioner Dirk von Hammel at his inauguration.
