Deutsche Telekom rolls out €50M fiber-optic network in Fulda district
Deutsche Telekom has launched a major fiber-optic expansion project in the Fulda district. The first phase targets 20,500 eligible addresses, aiming to bring high-speed internet to around 35,000 households, 5,000 businesses, and 100 public facilities. The project, backed by €50 million in federal funding, is expected to significantly boost the region's connectivity.
State Secretary Michael Brand (CDU) stressed the significance of gigabit infrastructure for the district's economic growth and daily life. The project will be rolled out across eleven expansion clusters over four years. Notably, the district took proactive steps to ensure fiber reaches areas that private providers might overlook due to limited profitability.
The German federal government is investing heavily in the project, with over €50 million allocated to expand high-speed gigabit internet. This funding will enable thousands more households in the Fulda district to access fiber-optic connections. District Administrator Bernd Woide expressed gratitude to State Secretary Brand for his personal commitment in securing the funding approval.
Upon completion, the project will provide direct fiber-optic access to approximately 35,000 households, 5,000 businesses, and 100 public facilities in the Fulda district. This significant upgrade in internet infrastructure is expected to drive economic growth and improve connectivity for residents and businesses alike. The project also includes an internet speed test to ensure the quality of the new connections.
