DHL expects more than 12 million parcels per day during the Christmas season - Deutsche Post DHL braces for record Christmas parcel rush with 11,000 new hires

The Deutsche Post DHL Group is gearing up for a bustling Christmas season, anticipating record parcel volumes. They plan to hire 11,000 temporary workers to cope with the surge. Customers are advised to send gifts early to ensure timely delivery.

The holiday rush will see parcel numbers soar in Germany. On typical days, the country handles between 6.3 and 7 million packages. However, peak days before Christmas could push volumes beyond 12 million.

To manage demand, Deutsche Post has set crucial deadlines. Standard parcels must be sent by December 20 to arrive by Christmas Eve. Express shipping will remain available until December 22.

Nikola Hagleitner, a board member of Deutsche Post DHL Group, has proposed a change to parcel policies. He suggested reducing the maximum weight limit from 31.5 kilograms to 23 kilograms. The company has not yet confirmed if this adjustment will take effect.

The extra staff and extended shipping options aim to keep deliveries running smoothly. With millions of parcels expected, Deutsche Post is urging customers to post early. The proposed weight limit change, if implemented, could reshape how people send packages in the future.
