DEU: Dieburg: Garbage can caught fire and called out police and fire department

A fire broke out in Dieburg on Monday afternoon after a garbage can caught alight on Kettelerstraße. The blaze, reported at around 2:30 p.m., was quickly tackled by residents before firefighters arrived. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the incident.

The fire started when a bin ignited near several others on Kettelerstraße. A witness noticed the flames and immediately called the fire department, who then alerted the police.

By the time emergency crews reached the scene, locals had already put out the fire. Despite their efforts, the blaze had already damaged nearby bins and caused property harm estimated in the thousands of euros. Firefighters remained on-site to extinguish lingering embers and ensure no further risks.

Investigators from Darmstadt’s Arson Unit, known as Special Commission 10, have since taken over the case. Their team is examining the circumstances to determine how the fire began.

The incident resulted in significant damage to bins and surrounding property. Firefighters secured the area, while investigators continue to search for answers. A full report on the cause is expected once the probe is complete.
