Deadly warehouse fire in Flieden leaves €800K damage and a firefighter dead

A large fire broke out in the Rückers district of Flieden on Tuesday afternoon, causing extensive damage. The blaze started at around 5:35 p.m. in a warehouse on Adenmühle Street. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after an employee spotted flames in the roof structure.

Firefighters from Flieden, Neuhof, Fulda, and Schlüchtern worked for hours to bring the fire under control. Despite their efforts, the warehouse suffered severe damage, with losses estimated at around €800,000. Some vehicles were moved out in time, saving them from destruction.

During the operation, a 27-year-old firefighter from Flieden fell ill and later died. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigators from the Fulda Criminal Police will examine the site on Thursday (January 8).

The incident has left the community in mourning following the firefighter’s death. Authorities will now focus on determining how the fire started. The investigation is set to begin later this week.
