Darmstadt police crack down on cross-border crime in highway checks
Darmstadt Police conducted extensive inspections over two days to combat cross-border crime. Between January 15 and 16, officers examined vehicles and individuals at a checkpoint on Federal Highway 26 near Ostbahnhof. A total of 42 vehicles and 65 people were checked. Seven preliminary drug tests were administered, but none tested positive for narcotics.
One vehicle was discovered with illegal modifications, and three seatbelt violations were recorded. Authorities emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts to reduce the risk of serious injury in accidents. These operations are part of ongoing efforts to deter burglars in southern Hesse. Police aim to maintain pressure on criminal networks by conducting regular checks. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious behavior and secure their homes to minimize theft opportunities.
The operation targeted traveling criminal groups known for residential burglaries during the 'dark season'. While no major offenses were detected, police emphasized the importance of vigilance and compliance with road safety rules. Further checks are planned as part of ongoing crime prevention measures.
