Dangerous flaws found in Darmstadt-Dieburg’s public transport buses during inspections

A series of safety concerns were uncovered during bus inspections in Darmstadt-Dieburg District on 26 November 2023. Authorities examined 13 public transport vehicles, revealing multiple hazards—including exposed metal on a student bus seat and a loose antifreeze canister inside another vehicle.

The inspections targeted buses operated by major transport firms, such as Deutsche Bahn AG, Transdev GmbH, and local providers like VGF and DVB. Among the issues found was a damaged passenger seat with sharp metal edges on a bus carrying students to Modautal School. In a separate vehicle, a malfunctioning anti-trapping mechanism on the rear door posed a risk to passengers.

The transport firms must now correct the identified problems without delay. Authorities have emphasised the need for stricter maintenance checks to prevent similar risks in future. The findings highlight ongoing efforts to ensure passenger safety across public transport networks in the region.
