Dachser's weekend logistics service boosts fresh food deliveries across Europe

Dachser Food Logistics has launched a new weekend service for time-sensitive shipments. The expansion allows manufacturers to process and dispatch goods on Saturdays, adding flexibility to their operations. The move aims to support businesses dealing with highly perishable products like meat and convenience foods.

The service now treats Saturday as a standard working day. Customers across Germany can submit shipments on Saturdays, with deliveries guaranteed by 11 a.m. the following Monday if requested. All weekend consignments are handled through the company's Eurohub near Frankfurt am Main, which now operates six days a week.

The new offering extends transit times for trans-European shipments by one full day. It covers exports from Germany to Denmark, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, and the Netherlands, as well as parts of Belgium, northern Italy, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. By providing a uniform, nationwide solution, the service helps manufacturers manage weekend production more efficiently.

The additional handling day also helps extend product shelf life. This is particularly useful for goods with strict freshness requirements, ensuring they reach destinations in optimal condition.

The weekend service gives producers greater control over shipping schedules. With Saturday now functioning as a regular business day, companies can better align production and logistics. The change is expected to improve supply chain reliability for perishable goods across Europe.
