Dachser Launches Weekend Food Logistics to Extend Fresh Product Shelf Life
Dachser Food Logistics has expanded its operations to include weekend services for perishable food transport. Launched in February 2023, the new offering helps producers of fresh goods meet tight delivery deadlines. The move aims to give businesses more flexibility in shipping and production schedules.
The weekend service operates from the Eurohub near Frankfurt am Main, running six days a week. It collects shipments from customers across Germany every Saturday. Deliveries then arrive at European destinations by Monday at 11 a.m., if requested.
The service supports manufacturers of highly perishable items, such as meat and convenience foods. By treating Saturday as a standard business day, it extends product shelf life and adds an extra transit day for cross-border shipments. This standardised approach ensures nationwide coverage for weekend production.
Initially, the service covers exports from Germany to Denmark, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, and the Netherlands. It also reaches parts of Belgium, northern Italy, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. The expansion strengthens Dachser's European Food Network by improving transit efficiency.
The weekend operations provide a reliable solution for businesses with strict freshness requirements. Producers now have more control over shipping timelines, ensuring goods arrive on time. The service also enhances Dachser's ability to handle time-sensitive deliveries across Europe.
