Customs Seize Jam Packed with Potent Drug in Germany
Customs officers in Lohne, Oldenburg, made a surprising discovery on March 10, 2025. They found 40 jars of Russian jam that contained an unlisted, potent ingredient. This led to a violation of the German Drug Law.
Upon inspection, the jam was found to contain Sildenafil, a prescription-only active ingredient known for its potency-enhancing effects. The recipient claimed the jam was packed with vitamins or supplements, but customs suspected otherwise.
The import of the jam was promptly prohibited. The drugs were secured and passed on to the relevant market surveillance authority for further investigation. Despite extensive searches, no specific information about a pharmaceutical facility linked to the incident has been found.
The discovery of Sildenafil in the jam has raised concerns about the potential misuse of common food items to smuggle restricted substances. Authorities continue to investigate the source and aim to prevent similar incidents in the future.
