Customs Seize Ferrari, Collect €236,500 in Duties in Six Months
Customs officials in Singen, Germany, have detected a significant number of vehicles registered outside the EU between January and June 2025. These vehicles, totaling 64, resulted in import duties of over 236,500 euros.
In early September, a 60-year-old driver from Luxembourg was fined a hefty 124,000 euros for importing his unregistered Tesla into Germany. The Tesla, valued at around 207,000 euros, was registered in Switzerland and thus not exempt from duties. The case was discovered during a routine customs control at the Konstanz - Paradiesertor customs office and a tax penalty procedure was initiated.
During the same period, another 38 vehicles were found without proof of duty payment, with import duties of over 165,000 euros becoming due. In total, 26 vehicles registered outside the EU were detected, leading to import duties of around 71,500 euros.
The driver of the Tesla paid the fine and was allowed to continue his journey. These incidents highlight the importance of understanding and adhering to customs regulations when importing vehicles into Germany.
