Customs Seize 60,000 Untaxed Cigarettes at Sandersküpper Border

Customs officials at the Sandersküpper border crossing near Ahaus intercepted a man with nearly 60,000 untaxed cigarettes. The 26-year-old Dutchman is now facing criminal proceedings for suspected tax evasion, with the potential loss to the state reaching almost €12,000.

The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was stopped while attempting to transport the cigarettes across the borders. Customs officers seized the contraband and launched an investigation into the incident. The Dutchman claimed he had accidentally taken a wrong turn and had no intention of entering Germany. Despite his claim, authorities suspect him of deliberately evading taxes, as the cigarettes were untaxed.

The criminal proceedings against the Dutchman are ongoing, with the exact amount of tax evaded estimated to be nearly €12,000. The judge and prosecutor handling the case have not been named, as the investigation continues.
