Customs Raid in Aachen Uncovers Labor, Immigration Offenses
Customs officers in Aachen, Germany, have carried out extensive checks on catering businesses, uncovering various labor and immigration offenses. The inspections, part of Europe-wide action days against labor exploitation and human trafficking, resulted in multiple investigations and arrests.
Over the course of the checks, 56 individuals were inspected across 13 restaurants and snack bars in Aachen, Euskirchen, and Heinsberg. The Main Customs Office Aachen, which regularly participates in such European control days, initiated 17 investigations. These included six for illegal residence, four for aiding and abetting illegal residence, five for minimum wage violations, three for withholding and embezzlement of wages, and two for violation of the duty to record hours.
The identity of 20 people was verified during the checks. In the district of Euskirchen, police filed three criminal charges for illegal residence and aiding and abetting illegal residence. One person wanted on a warrant was also handed over to the police.
The joint international action days, aimed at combating labor exploitation and dismantling criminal groups, have yielded significant results in the Aachen region. The Main Customs Office Aachen's ongoing participation in these control days reflects their commitment to tackling human trafficking and illegal employment.
