Customs Office Finds 34 Minimum Wage Violations in Brandenburg Audit

In a concerted effort to uphold labor rights, the Main Customs Office Potsdam recently conducted a comprehensive nationwide focus check and minimum wage special audit across Brandenburg. The operation, involving 68 inspectors, targeted various sectors and businesses.

The audit, carried out in collaboration with Financial Control Schwarzarbeit and local authorities, scrutinized 115 individuals and two businesses. It focused on barbershops predominantly in Potsdam, with additional checks in northwest Brandenburg covering catering, accommodation, beverage retail, agriculture, laundries, and cleaning companies.

The operation revealed 34 cases requiring further investigation. These primarily involved suspected non-payment of the statutory minimum wage, which has been 12.41 euros gross per hour since January 2024 and will increase to 12.82 euros from January 2025. Other issues included suspected evasion of social contributions, fraudulent performance, and illegal employment of foreign workers.

The Main Customs Office Potsdam, along with its partners, has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring fair labor practices in Brandenburg. The findings from this audit will now be pursued, with appropriate actions taken against any violations of minimum wage laws and related offenses.
