Customs Crackdown in Freight Industry: 54 Potential Irregularities Found
Customs officers in Thuringia and South Saxony have stepped up controls in the freight forwarding, transport, and logistics industry. In the latest round of inspections, 119 officers interviewed 421 employees about their employment conditions.
The focus of the controls was on ensuring compliance with the general statutory minimum wage of 12.82 euros gross per hour. Officers also checked social security obligations, the residence status of foreign employees, and improper receipt of social benefits.
In 54 cases, indications of possible irregularities were found and are now being clarified. These inspections are part of the Customs Financial Control for Illegal Work, a coordinated effort involving the Finanzbehörde, Landespolizei, Bundespolizei, Zoll, and other institutions.
The intensified controls reflect a broader strategy to combat illegal work practices and tax evasion in the industry. Specific details about recent actions can be found in official sources and press releases.
