Crime wave hits northern Hesse with thefts, drug offences and violent assaults

Several incidents involving traffic violations, theft, and assault have been reported across northern Hesse. Police have launched investigations into multiple cases, including a hit-and-run, drug-related offences, and violent confrontations.

In Waldkappel, a man was detained after riding a moped without a licence, while another driver tested positive for cocaine in Eichsfeld district. Authorities are also searching for witnesses after a wallet was stolen from an elderly woman in a local supermarket.

On Monday morning, a 79-year-old woman had her wallet stolen at the REWE supermarket in Waldkappel. The wallet contained cash, a debit card, an ID, and a health insurance card. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the theft, which took place around 11:15 AM.

A 29-year-old man from Waldkappel was stopped while riding a moped without a valid driver’s licence. Officers took him into custody after discovering he was wanted for assault, threats, and resisting law enforcement. He is now under investigation for additional offences, including driving under the influence of narcotics and drug possession. In a separate incident, a 19-year-old driver from Eichsfeld district was pulled over and tested positive for cocaine. Authorities immediately prohibited him from continuing his journey and have initiated further proceedings. On the roads, a 21-year-old driver from Hessisch Lichtenau collided with a deer on the K 42 between Rommerode and Laudenbach. The crash caused approximately €2,500 in damage to his vehicle. Meanwhile, an unknown driver damaged a parked VW Golf on Zu den Weinbergen Street in Witzenhausen before fleeing the scene. Police are still searching for the responsible party. Violence also flared in another case, where a 52-year-old man assaulted a 47-year-old woman and resisted arrest. During the struggle, officers sustained injuries, and the suspect is now facing charges for assault and resisting law enforcement.

The incidents have led to multiple ongoing investigations. Police are urging anyone with information about the supermarket theft or the hit-and-run in Witzenhausen to come forward. Meanwhile, the drivers involved in drug-related offences and traffic violations face legal consequences, including potential charges and driving bans.
