Crime wave hits Main-Kinzig: Thefts, fraud, and vandalism shake local communities
A series of crimes and incidents have been reported across the Main-Kinzig district over the past week. From thefts and vandalism to a police internship, local authorities are addressing a range of issues.
Among the cases, a kebab shop was defaced, a construction site lost fuel, and a valuable statue was stolen from a cemetery.
In Großauheim, an unknown vandal smeared red paint across the exterior wall of a kebab shop. The damage was estimated at around €100. Meanwhile, in the Meerholz district, thieves siphoned roughly 550 litres of diesel from a construction site on Am Bruchweg.
A copper statue of Mary, worth over €3,000, was taken from the cemetery in Wallroth. The theft has left local residents concerned about security in the area. Two suspects tricked a 58-year-old man during a supposed mobile phone sale. After meeting him, they swapped his high-end device for a fake and escaped in a black Volkswagen Golf, where a third person was waiting. Separately, a parked Ford Transit on Edisonstraße had its window smashed. An iPad and work tools were stolen from inside. In Gründau, a large swastika—measuring about 3x3 metres—was trampled into the snow on Kinzigstraße. On a different note, Police Officer Jessica Schneider has begun a two-week internship with the press office of the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters. Her press releases will appear under the byline 'js' for the duration.
Local police are investigating the thefts, vandalism, and fraud cases. The incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in the region. Officer Schneider's internship will also bring temporary changes to police communications.
