Crime wave hits Hersfeld-Rotenburg as thieves target wallets, gold and luxury cars
Residents of Asbach and surrounding Hersfeld-Rotenburg district have been targeted by thieves and scammers in recent days. A woman's wallet was stolen from her backpack in a supermarket, while fraudsters used 'shock calls' to trick an elderly woman out of gold bars worth tens of thousands of euros. Meanwhile, a high-value car was stolen in Niederaula, and a senior citizen was robbed of jewelry in Mengshausen.
On Tuesday, November 11, between 2:30 PM and 3 PM, a woman's wallet was taken from her backpack while she shopped in a supermarket on Alsfelder Straße in Asbach. The same day, an elderly woman in Breitenbach was deceived by a 'shock call' and subsequently handed over two gold bars, worth a lower five-figure sum, to a woman posing as a police officer. The suspect is described as approximately 150 cm tall, with a Central European appearance, a stocky build, a round face, wearing a black hunter's cap, and speaking accent-free German.
In Niederaula, a blue BMW 340i Touring, valued at around €26,000, was stolen between 7:30 AM and 1:30 PM on Wednesday, November 12. The vehicle, with the license plate 'ROF-MK 515', was taken from near Hans-Freiherr-von-Dörnberg-Straße. Police are seeking witnesses who may have seen a Mediterranean man, aged 20 to 30, 170 to 180 cm tall, with short black hair and a dark beard, wearing dark clothing, in the area around 3:30 PM on the same day.
Later that day, an unknown man impersonating a police officer stole jewelry worth approximately €1,000 from a senior citizen's apartment in Mengshausen.
