Crime wave hits Hanau, Schöneck, and Bad Soden as police probe break-ins and extortion
A series of crimes has been reported across Hanau, Schöneck, and Bad Soden in recent days. Police are investigating multiple break-ins, thefts, and an extortion case involving minors. Meanwhile, a missing woman from Hanau has been found safe after disappearing earlier this month.
On Monday, a bakery in Hanau's Kesselstadt district was targeted by thieves. Between 6:30 p.m. and 5:45 a.m. the next morning, cash was stolen from the register. That same day, an apartment on Französische Allee suffered a burglary, with several thousand euros taken between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.
A clothing store on Bangertstraße in Hanau also faced an attempted break-in early Tuesday. Two unknown individuals used a sign to smash the glass door but fled before stealing anything. Elsewhere, thieves struck a construction site on Akazienweg, making off with 50 to 60 metres of copper cable worth hundreds of euros. In Schöneck, an orange Mercedes Sprinter with FB licence plates was stolen from a business premises on Falltorstraße. The theft occurred between Saturday evening and Monday morning. Meanwhile, in Bad Soden, an abandoned clinic building on Frowin-von-Hutten-Straße was broken into, with cables stolen and security cameras damaged. Police in Erlensee are also investigating an extortion case involving three juveniles aged 14 to 17. The trio allegedly demanded money from a 12-year-old on Monday evening. The victim's identity remains protected, and no further details have been released. In a separate development, a 36-year-old woman from Hanau, reported missing since December 10, has been located unharmed.
Authorities are actively pursuing leads in the thefts and break-ins, while the extortion case remains under investigation. The safe return of the missing woman brings relief, though police continue to monitor the string of recent crimes in the region. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
