Crime wave hits central Hesse with burglaries, explosion, and theft

A series of break-ins and incidents have struck central Hesse over the past week. In Marburg, burglars targeted two homes, causing significant damage and stealing valuables. Meanwhile, an explosion in Angelburg-Lixfeld and a vending machine theft in Dautphetal added to the string of crimes.

The first break-in happened between January 22 at 10:45 a.m. and January 23 at 7:45 a.m. on Großseelheimer Straße in Marburg. Intruders forced up a roller shutter, smashed a window, and climbed onto a roof terrace using a ladder. They then broke open the terrace door to enter the apartment. The burglars took three beverage bottles, and police suspect additional items may have been stolen. Damage to the property alone reached around €500, while structural harm to the building was estimated at over €100,000.

Just a day later, on January 24 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., another home was burgled on Fontanestraße in Marburg. Jewellery and handbags were stolen, with the total damage from the break-in nearing €1,000. In a separate incident, an explosion rocked an apartment on Bergstraße in Angelburg-Lixfeld on January 25 at 5:15 p.m. Authorities suspect a 300 ml gas canister was mishandled, causing the blast. The resident was taken to hospital for evaluation, though no suspect has been named. Early the next morning, at around 1:15 a.m. on January 25, a thief smashed the glass of a snack vending machine on Rotesteinweg in Dautphetal-Dautphe. Several e-cigarettes were stolen, though no further details have been released.

The incidents have left residents and businesses dealing with repairs and losses. Police continue to investigate each case, though no arrests have been reported so far. The total financial impact from property damage and stolen goods runs into thousands of euros.
