Crime spree shakes central Germany with thefts, arson, and a stolen car crash

A series of crimes unfolded across central Germany between Wednesday and Friday last week. Police made multiple arrests, including a suspected arsonist and a drunk driver who crashed a stolen car. Several incidents involved theft, vandalism, and suspicious behaviour.

The first reported incident took place overnight from Wednesday (March 4) to Thursday (March 5) in Bad Vilbel. An unknown individual damaged four luxury cars at a local dealership. No arrests have been made in connection with this case.

Later on Thursday morning, a cyclist was seen searching a silver Ford Mondeo on Altkönigstraße in Friedberg around 11:20 a.m. Authorities have not confirmed whether the vehicle was linked to any other crimes.

That same evening, police arrested a 32-year-old man from Nidda. He was suspected of involvement in arson attacks that occurred on Thursday night. During the arrest, officers found a knife and narcotics in his possession. However, he was released the following morning (Friday, March 6) due to insufficient evidence for detention.

Meanwhile, in Ober-Rosbach, a 38-year-old man stole a VW Golf from a vehicle detailing shop. He crashed it into a house wall before being apprehended. Tests revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.8 per mille, and he was also suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.

In Wolf, a burglar broke into an apartment by forcing open a window. No items were reported missing from the first property, but the intruder then entered a second apartment, where cash was stolen.

The 32-year-old arson suspect was freed without charges after less than 24 hours in custody. The drunk driver remains in police custody, while investigations into the car vandalism, burglary, and suspicious vehicle search continue. Authorities have not yet linked these incidents to a wider pattern of crime.
