Construction Starts April 22 for New Intersection at Adam-Opel & Max-von-Laue

Construction is set to begin on April 22 for a new intersection at Adam-Opel-Straße and Max-von-Laue-Straße. This project is part of the Quartier am Ostpark development, which will bring around 400 new apartments to the area. The intersection upgrade will include traffic lights and safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.

Upon completion, drivers will benefit from new left-turn options. They can turn left from Adam-Opel-Straße onto Max-von-Laue-Straße and vice versa in the outbound direction. This upgrade aims to manage increased traffic flow without disturbing nearby residential buildings or Immanuel-Kant-Schule.

Construction will temporarily close the western end of Max-von-Laue-Straße in both directions for about ten months. Traffic on Adam-Opel-Straße will also be reduced to one lane in each direction during this period. Initial preparations involve closing part of the parking area and installing temporary containers on the north side of the large sports hall.

The Quartier am Ostpark project, including the intersection upgrade, is funded by various sources. The Magistrate has approved financing, with the state open to cost-sharing. The federal government has promised a fixed amount of 25 million euros. Once a reliable action plan is available, the property owner Deutsche Funkturm GmbH will be involved in the renovation costs.
