Pretend Smoke Detector Inspector Makes Off With Valuable Loot - Con Artist Steals Thousands in Jewelry by Impersonating Officials in Germany

A con artist has been targeting elderly residents in Germany, posing as an official to steal valuables. In two separate incidents, the thief tricked victims in Langen and Leverkusen before making off with expensive jewelry.

On September 22, the suspect entered the home of an 87-year-old man in Leverkusen. Pretending to be an inspector, they gained access to the apartment. Once inside, the thief took a ring, a chain, and a watch from a bedroom dresser.

Days later, the same trick was used in Langen, near Frankfurt. The fraudster convinced an elderly woman to let them in by claiming to be an official. The stolen items were worth several thousand euros in total.

Police are investigating both cases as part of a wider pattern of deception. The victims, both senior citizens, lost high-value jewelry to the same suspect. Authorities have warned residents to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an official before allowing them inside.
