Completion of the Sparkasse headquarters at Hauptwache delayed until 2028

Frankfurter Sparkasse has delayed the opening of its new headquarters at Hauptwache until early 2028. The bank originally planned to move into the building in 2026 but now faces a two-year setback. Construction at the site will continue for the next few years as part of a larger urban development plan.

The project began in June 2024 when the bank acquired the property at An der Hauptwache 1. OFB Projektentwicklung GmbH is managing the construction, which will create a modern workspace designed for flexibility and efficiency. Once completed, the building will serve as the bank’s central hub, bringing together key administrative functions under one roof.

The delay means the bank’s current main building on Neue Mainzer Straße will remain in use longer than expected. After the relocation, that site will be demolished to make way for new developments. The area is part of Frankfurt’s 'Cultural Mile' initiative, which aims to transform the city centre along the historic Wallanlagen promenade.

Plans for the vacant land include a new theatre and a high-rise building of up to 175 metres. These additions will form part of the cultural axis running through the heart of Frankfurt.

With construction ongoing until early 2028, the bank’s new headquarters will eventually replace its existing offices. The project ties into broader efforts to reshape Frankfurt’s city centre, blending modern banking facilities with cultural and architectural developments. The site at Hauptwache will remain a focal point for both business and urban renewal.
