Completion of the Sparkasse headquarters at Hauptwache delayed until 2028

Frankfurt Savings Bank has pushed back its move to a new headquarters at An der Hauptwache 1. Originally planned for an earlier date, the relocation is now set for early 2028. The bank acquired the property in June 2024, but construction delays have extended the timeline.

The bank’s current main building on Neue Mainzer Straße will sit empty once the move takes place. Demolition of that site is already scheduled to make way for a new theatre and a 175-metre-high skyscraper. These plans form part of Frankfurt’s proposed 'Cultural Mile', intended to create a fresh cultural axis through the city centre.

OFB Projektentwicklung is managing the construction process in partnership with the bank. The real estate division of Frankfurt Savings Bank, led by CEO Georg Wieck, oversees the project’s direction. The new headquarters will house modern, flexible workspaces designed to improve efficiency. Work at the Hauptwache site will continue until early 2028. Once complete, the building will become the bank’s central hub, bringing together key administrative functions under one roof.

The delay means the bank will remain in its current location for longer than expected. Construction activity at Hauptwache will persist until the new headquarters is ready in early 2028. After the move, the old site on Neue Mainzer Straße will be cleared for redevelopment as part of the city’s cultural expansion plans.
