City reaffirms climate action plan amid budget and transparency concerns

The city has clarified its stance on climate change action after concerns arose over recent proposals. Officials stressed that ongoing efforts to meet climate change targets remain unchanged, despite budget challenges. A draft resolution now outlines how the city will push forward with its Climate Action Plan while ensuring transparency and accountability.

The proposal stems from Motion No. 107/21-26, submitted by the City Council Chair, not the Lord Mayor. It confirms the completion of the plan’s development phase but does not signal an end to climate change initiatives. Instead, the city aims to intensify measures like renewable energy projects, including photovoltaic systems on municipal buildings and green roofs.

The city’s response ensures that climate change action stays on course, with clear monitoring and public oversight. The submission of the Action Plan secures funding while keeping all current strategies intact. Elected representatives will continue to shape measures through the standard review process.
