China Surpasses the United States as Germany’s Top Trading Partner in 2025

Germany’s trade landscape has shifted in 2025. For the first time in recent years, China has overtaken the United States as the country’s top trading partner. New figures from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) confirm the change after nine months of data collection.

The latest report covers trade activity from January to September 2025. During this period, Germany’s total trade with China reached €185.9 billion. The United States followed closely with a trade volume of €184.7 billion.

China’s trade volume with Germany now stands at €185.9 billion for the year so far. The US sits just behind at €184.7 billion. This shift reflects changing economic priorities and trade flows between the nations.
