Chaos erupts in Wiesbaden and Mainz after day of violent attacks and arson
A series of violent incidents and acts of vandalism shook Wiesbaden and Mainz on Tuesday. Police reported multiple attacks, including assaults, arson, and property damage. Several suspects remain at large while one perpetrator turned himself in.
The day began with a violent assault in Wiesbaden. Early on Tuesday morning, a 39-year-old Afghan man was attacked and injured by three unknown assailants at Bus Stop B on BahnhofstraĂe. Hours later, four individualsâthought to be around 20 years oldâwere seen spray-painting roll-up shutters in red on BlĂźcherplatz in Wiesbaden-Westend.
By the evening, the disturbances escalated. In Wiesbaden-Rheingauviertel, unknown attackers hurled a rock at a moving ESWE bus, shattering the windshield and injuring the driver. Meanwhile, in Mainz-Kastel, a man was threatened with a baseball bat by a suspect described as approximately 40 years old, with dark hair, wearing grayish-green camouflage pants, a black hooded robe, and a light-coloured jacket. Arson also struck the area when an unknown individual set fire to a garden shed in Wiesbaden-Klarenthal, completely destroying the structure. Witnesses reported two youths, aged around 14 to 16 with short black hair, fleeing the scene and hiding in a supermarket on NixenstraĂe. The only resolution came later that evening when a remorseful perpetrator surrendered to police after two failed extortion attempts in Wiesbaden-SĂźdost.
Authorities are investigating the incidents, with several suspects still unidentified. The injured bus driver and the assaulted Afghan man received medical attention. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the events of the chaotic day.
