Carbon monoxide scare triggers gym evacuation, seven children hospitalized

A carbon monoxide scare at a gymnasium in Alsfeld led to an emergency evacuation on Friday morning. The incident, which triggered multiple CO detectors, saw seven children taken to hospital for checks. Firefighters and paramedics quickly responded to the scene on Jahnstraße. The alarm was raised shortly after 9 am on November 21, when CO detectors activated inside the gymnasium. A school class had already left the building by the time emergency crews arrived. Firefighters carried out air quality tests and ventilated the hall to clear any remaining gas. Authorities continue to examine whether a technical fault in the heating system caused the CO leak. The gymnasium remains closed until further notice while inspections are completed. All affected children have since been discharged from hospital with no serious injuries reported.
