BYD's Bold Push Into Germany: 350 Dealerships and a Premium Brand Launch
Chinese automaker BYD is pushing into the German market with an ambitious expansion plan. The company aims to open over 350 dealerships by the end of 2026 while addressing local customer doubts. Its premium brand, Denza, will launch in Germany next month with two new models.
Denza, BYD's high-end brand, will arrive in Germany in May with the Z9 GT sports car and the D9 electric van. The company plans flagship city stores and independent dealerships, targeting around 40 locations in the long term. This network will support BYD's broader goal of establishing more than 350 dealer sites across the country by late 2026.
BYD is tailoring its vehicles to German preferences, including station wagons and fleet solutions. A German chief designer leads the effort, ensuring the cars meet local needs. The company also insists it complies fully with European and German laws, dismissing espionage concerns.
Charging infrastructure is a key focus. BYD's 'Flash Charging' system, capable of delivering up to 1,000 kW, will be installed at dealerships and through partnerships. The strategy prioritises highways and busy urban areas, offering faster charging for high-mileage drivers and commercial fleets.
BYD's expansion includes a dense dealer network, locally adapted vehicles, and rapid charging options. The launch of Denza next month marks the start of its push to become a trusted name in Germany. Success will depend on overcoming scepticism and proving its commitment to the market.
