Unknowns steal bronze goose from statue in Hesse's Groß-Gerau - Bronze goose vanishes from Germany's beloved Gooseherd of Dornheim statue

A bronze goose has been stolen from the renowned Gooseherd of Dornheim statue in Groß-Gerau, Hesse. The theft occurred sometime between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday midday. Authorities estimate the stolen piece to be worth around €3,000.

The missing goose was part of a larger sculpture installed in 1990. Created by artist Karl Reisenbauer, the Gooseherd of Dornheim depicts a 19th-century rural scene from Austria's Waldviertel region. Alongside the gooseherd, the piece includes four human figures—a farmer, a woman, a child, and a musician—along with 12 geese. Traditional clothing, farming tools, and folk music elements are woven into the design.

During the theft, another goose in the statue was also damaged. The sculpture, originally placed in Dornheim, Austria, now stands in Groß-Gerau, where it has become a local landmark.

Police are investigating the incident, which has left the statue incomplete. The stolen goose's value and the damage to the second figure add to the loss. The community now awaits further updates on the case.
