BMW Bank names Stephan Cohnen to executive board for digital push

BMW Bank has expanded its executive board with the appointment of Stephan Cohnen. The change took effect on January 1, 2026, following approval by the bank’s supervisory board. Cohnen will now help drive the company’s digital transformation as it continues to grow as a leading automotive financial services provider.

Stephan Cohnen brings extensive experience to his new role. A business administration graduate, he began his career as an IT and transformation consultant. Over the years, he has held leadership positions within BMW Financial Services across Germany, the UK, and Belgium.

Before joining the executive board, Cohnen led the customer service, processes, and IT division at BMW Bank. His appointment comes as the bank strengthens its position in digital banking. With around 1,170 employees, BMW Bank serves nearly one million private and corporate customers across Germany, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The bank specialises in financing, leasing, insurance, and credit services for vehicles and motorcycles. Cohnen’s focus will be on modernising its operations and ensuring it remains competitive in an evolving financial sector.

Cohnen’s promotion marks a strategic step for BMW Bank as it pushes forward with digital innovation. His leadership in IT and customer service is expected to shape the bank’s future direction. The move also reflects the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of automotive financial services.
