Beloved Pastor Thomas Reitz Leaves a Legacy of Inclusive Leadership in Seligenstadt
After nearly five years leading the Evangelical Congregation of Seligenstadt and Mainhausen, Thomas Reitz is moving to a new role in Frankfurt. His departure on 4 May 2023 marks the end of a well-regarded chapter for the community. Colleagues and congregants have praised his dedication, warmth, and leadership qualities during his time in the region.
Reitz will take up the position of pastor at Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen’s Evangelical Reformed Three Kings Congregation. A farewell service and reception were held for him at Seligenstadt Evangelical Church before his transition. His approach, described as 'passive mission,' focused on creating an open, welcoming environment for all.
He leaves behind a team he frequently commended, including pastoral colleagues Leonie Krauß-Buck and Alexandru Lita. Reitz highlighted their diverse strengths and contributions to the congregation’s work. He also expressed gratitude for the chance to engage deeply with evangelical daycare initiatives during his tenure.
Norbert Schweitzer, the congregation’s chair, received particular recognition from Reitz for his commitment and expertise. The wider Evangelical Deanery of Dreieich-Rodgau is now in talks to fill Reitz’s position promptly. In the meantime, Alexandru Lita will step in as interim leader, working alongside Krauß-Buck to support the congregation.
From the start of 2024, Christina Schultheis will take over as the new community pastor in Steinheim, part of the same deanery. Reitz’s departure will be felt not only in the congregation but also in local daycare centres and the broader region, where his open and approachable manner left a lasting impression.
The Evangelical Congregation of Seligenstadt and Mainhausen now faces a period of transition. Interim leadership will maintain continuity until a permanent replacement is appointed. Reitz’s legacy of inclusive leadership and community engagement will remain a benchmark for the congregation moving forward.
