Behind the Scenes of the Theater Operations in Marburg - Approximately 30 People with a Refugee and Migration Background Participate in the Tour
A group of 30 people with refugee and migration backgrounds recently explored the Hessian State Theater Marburg (HLTM) during a special behind-the-scenes tour. Organised by the Marburg-Biedenkopf district, the visit formed part of the Open VOICE programme, which connects jobseekers directly with local businesses. Participants came from countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine, Romania and Turkey, eager to learn about career opportunities in the arts.
The tour highlighted the wide variety of trades that keep a theatre running. Visitors saw firsthand the work of carpenters, costume and mask designers, metalworkers, storage teams, technical crews, and administrative staff. While the HLTM currently offers formal apprenticeships only in event technology, internships in other departments remain available throughout the year.
This season at the HLTM carries the motto *TAKE CARE. FOR ONE ANOTHER. TOGETHER*, underlining the theatre’s commitment to democracy and community engagement. The programme also features a linguistic focus, with a Georgian-language production already staged and a Ukrainian one scheduled for January 2026. Accessibility remains a priority for the HLTM. Free tickets are provided through the *Marburger Kulturloge* association, ensuring that performances stay affordable for all. The *Open VOICE* initiative itself aims to break down barriers to employment by creating direct links between jobseekers and employers in the region.
The tour gave participants a closer look at potential career paths in theatre production and administration. By showcasing both creative and technical roles, the HLTM and the Marburg-Biedenkopf district hope to inspire new training and job opportunities. The event also reinforced the theatre’s role as an inclusive space for cultural exchange and professional growth.
