Beavers in Seligenstadt Reshape Water Landscape, Disrupting Infrastructure

Beavers in Seligenstadt's Schwarzbruch nature reserve are actively reshaping the water landscape, causing disruptions to local infrastructure. The city is working with stakeholders to protect the beavers while ensuring the functionality of municipal services.

The beavers' dam-building and construction work influence water levels, affecting heavy-goods vehicle access to the municipal works yard, the adjacent poultry association, and the allotment garden club. Despite the disruptions, the beavers remain highly active in the reserve and surrounding areas.

Seligenstadt is in constant dialogue with stakeholders to balance the protection of the strictly protected beavers and the functionality of municipal infrastructure. First City Councilor Oliver Steidl has stated that further measures are necessary to mitigate the effects of beaver activity on local infrastructure.

The city council, led by Chairman Thomas Hübl, is discussing future measures. These include installing special protective installations to prevent damage caused by beaver activities while ensuring the protection of the beaver population. An on-site meeting will be held to discuss suitable solutions, involving relevant authorities and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with nature and species protection laws.

Beaver activity in Seligenstadt is causing infrastructure disruptions, but the city is committed to protecting the beavers while finding solutions to mitigate the effects. Stakeholders and authorities will collaborate to ensure both nature conservation and municipal functionality.
