Basement sauna fire triggers emergency response in Wiesbaden apartment building
A burning sauna in a basement set off a major emergency response in Wiesbaden on Saturday. Firefighters rushed to the scene after smoke was spotted billowing from an apartment building. No injuries were reported, but authorities have since launched an investigation.
The alarm was raised around 1:50 p.m. when smoke emerged from the basement of a residential building. Wiesbadenâs professional fire brigade, supported by the Stadtmitte volunteer fire department and emergency medical teams, arrived quickly. Inside, they discovered a sauna fully ablaze.
The flames were brought under control within minutes. Crews kept the basement door shut to stop smoke from filling the stairwell. After extinguishing the fire, they ventilated the basement and the rest of the building.
Meanwhile, light smoke was also detected in a top-floor apartment. This was cleared by simply airing out the space. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and police are now examining how the sauna ignited.
The operation involved multiple emergency services working together to contain the situation. With no injuries and the fire fully extinguished, the focus now shifts to the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet identified who was responsible for the sauna being in use at the time.
