Basement sauna fire in Wiesbaden prompts swift emergency response

A basement sauna blazed up in an apartment block on Nerotal Street in northeastern Wiesbaden on Saturday afternoon. Emergency crews responded swiftly after smoke was spotted billowing from the building at around 1:50 p.m. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The alarm prompted a large-scale operation involving Wiesbaden’s professional fire brigade, the Stadtmitte volunteer fire department, and emergency medical services. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the sauna ablaze in the basement. They extinguished the flames within minutes.

During the response, crews kept the basement door shut to stop smoke from spreading into the stairwell. After putting out the fire, they ventilated the basement and the rest of the building. Light smoke was later found in a top-floor apartment, which was cleared by airing out the space.

Police have since opened an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The incident caused no reported injuries, and the building was safely ventilated. Authorities continue to examine how the sauna fire started. Further details about the property owner remain undisclosed.
