Bank of America Expands Mobile Check Deposit Hours to 9 PM ET
Bank of America customers can now deposit checks using their mobile devices until 9 p.m. ET or 8 p.m. PT, depending on their time zone. This service offers a convenient alternative to visiting a PNC bank or using an ATM. Funds from mobile deposits become available following the same timeline as in-person deposits.
The speed of check clearance varies based on several factors. Typically, a check clears within two business days after deposit, with funds accessible by the third day. However, extended holds may occur due to suspected fraud, redeposited checks, large amounts, new accounts, or international checks.
Cashier's checks and certified checks usually clear within one business day due to their lower risk and guaranteed funds. Similarly, checks from the same financial institution typically clear within one day due to immediate verification. Government checks, cashier's checks, and certified checks also tend to clear faster, often within one business day. Most checks clear within two business days, but some banks may hold funds for up to seven days depending on the check amount and type.
Customers can choose from various alternatives to depositing a check, including wire transfers, money orders, Zelle, and other P2P payment services. Federal law mandates that the first $225 of any check deposit must be available by the next business day. Bank of America's mobile check deposit cutoff times ensure customers can conveniently deposit checks until the evening, with funds becoming available according to the bank's standard check clearance process.
