Bangladesh Postal Department Embarks on Digital Upgrade for Modern Economy
The Bangladesh Postal Department is undergoing significant digital upgrades to adapt to the modern economy. A new address management system is being implemented, and the postal and courier law is being updated to bolster data security. Meanwhile, efforts to restore public trust in e-commerce and recover lost assets are underway.
The new address management system will integrate area codes, street codes, house codes, and geo-fencing. This will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of deliveries. The postal and courier law is being revised to ensure the security of personal data, with the updated law expected to be presented to the cabinet by November.
To promote e-commerce and restore public confidence, initiatives are being taken to integrate the Directorate of Posts (DoP) with e-commerce platforms. This aims to provide equal service access in both urban and rural areas. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, a special assistant to the chief adviser, has announced that the recovery of dispossessed social security assets of the DoP will commence soon. This process will be coordinated with divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
To celebrate World Post Day, a two-day fair featuring 20 stalls and an exhibition of old postage stamps was inaugurated. Commemorative postage stamps were also unveiled on the occasion. Currently, only 50 to 60 percent of mail and parcels can be tracked, but efforts are being made to improve tracking software for nearly 100 percent tracking.
The Bangladesh Postal Department's digitisation and modernisation efforts are expected to improve services, enhance security, and restore public confidence in e-commerce. The recovery of lost social security assets and improved tracking systems will further bolster these efforts.
