Work has officially started on the U2 subway extension in Bad Homburg. The project will create a direct link between Gonzenheim and Frankfurt’s city centre. A groundbreaking ceremony on 9 December 2025 marked the beginning of construction.

The 1.6-kilometre extension will run from Gonzenheim to Bad Homburg’s main train station. It includes a tunnel section and a new stop at Gonzenheim. The Stadtbahngesellschaft (SBHG) is overseeing the entire project, from planning to completion.

Once finished, the extension will improve transport connections between Bad Homburg and Frankfurt. The new tunnel and Gonzenheim stop aim to ease travel for daily commuters. The project remains on track for completion by late 2029.
