Auto Insurers Must Soon Submit Info to New Kentucky Insurance Verification System
Kentucky has rolled out a new real-time system to check vehicle insurance coverage. The Kentucky Insurance Verification System (KIVS) went live on 1 December 2025, aiming to spot uninsured drivers more efficiently. Major insurers like Geico, Progressive, State Farm, and Allstate have already signed up for the platform.
The system was built by the Kentucky Department of Insurance (KDOI) alongside private tech firm Insurify. It replaces the old Automobile Liability Insurance system, which will shut down once the transition is complete.
Insurance companies covering at least 1,000 registered vehicles must connect to KIVS by next year. They have until 15 January 2026 to register on the IVS website. A test file of their policy records must also be submitted by 1 July 2026. The full switch to KIVS is set for 1 October 2026. By then, insurers must begin submitting their complete book-of-business data through the new system. The platform is already open for registration, testing, and integration with existing company software.
The new verification system will help authorities quickly confirm whether a vehicle is insured. Insurers now have clear deadlines for registration, testing, and full adoption. Once fully operational, the old system will no longer be used.
