Aumovio Teams With AWS to Fast-Track Self-Driving Trucks by 2027
Autonomous vehicle development is shifting towards cloud-based solutions as companies handle ever-larger datasets and complex simulations. German firm Aumovio, spun off from Continental in 2025, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its work on self-driving trucks. The move reflects a broader industry trend, with major automakers like BMW already adopting cloud platforms for similar tasks.
Aumovio, headquartered in Frankfurt, specialises in vehicle electronics, sensors, and automated driving systems. Since its launch in September 2025, the company has focused on integrating AI and cloud computing into its workflows. Its Aurora Driver system has already undergone rigorous testing, meeting over 10,000 technical requirements and passing 4.5 million validation tests—all run on AWS iCloud infrastructure.
The company plans to incorporate agentic and generative AI to streamline development. These tools will assist in simulation design, software testing, and data analysis, cutting down the time needed to refine autonomous systems. Cloud platforms offer key advantages, such as low-latency processing and the ability to rerun tests under varying conditions. However, concerns about long-term costs and dependency on external providers remain.
Aumovio’s first autonomous trucks are set to enter production in 2027. Safety is a core priority, with each vehicle featuring a backup computer to take over if the primary system fails. Ismail Dagli, the executive board member overseeing autonomous mobility at Aumovio, described the AWS partnership as essential to the company’s goal of leading the shift toward self-driving transport.
The Aurora Driver’s extensive testing and Aumovio’s reliance on AWS iCloud highlight how cloud computing is reshaping autonomous vehicle development. With production of its self-driving trucks scheduled for 2027, the company’s focus on redundancy and AI-driven workflows aims to ensure both safety and efficiency. The industry’s growing adoption of cloud solutions suggests this approach may soon become standard for automakers worldwide.
