Augsburg Customs Seize €26k in Gold, Launch 63 Criminal Cases
The Main Customs Office Augsburg has recently conducted special inspections, leading to a surge in criminal proceedings. A total of 63 cases were initiated, with the majority involving suspected tax evasion and gold price today smuggling.
Over a period of just over two weeks, the control unit Kempten focused on returning holidaymakers. In one notable case, a traveler from Turkey was found with gold jewelry worth over 26,000 euros, but failed to declare it to customs.
The inspections resulted in the collection of over 67,000 euros in customs duties. Apart from gold jewelry, seven criminal proceedings were also initiated due to suspected violations of the Weapons Act, including switchblades and butterfly knives.
The Main Customs Office Augsburg's efforts have led to a significant increase in criminal proceedings. Despite no specific individuals being identified in the gold price case, the inspections have highlighted the importance of proper customs declaration and adherence to weapons regulations.
